ED 7730 - Digital Portfolio

The capstone course of the IT&DML Program at the University of New Haven. Students develop a digital portfolio demonstrating mastery of instructional technologies and media literacies, synthesizing their program learning into a public-facing artifact that represents their professional identity.


Course Description

This course serves as the capstone or culminating course for the Sixth Year Certificate. Students develop digital portfolios — defined as a purposeful collection of student work that illustrates efforts, progress, and achievement in the program objectives. Students demonstrate mastery of instructional technological tools as well as mastery of the pedagogical and intellectual content, synthesizing them into a portfolio that demonstrates significant mastery of instructional technologies and media literacies.

  1. Create a digital portfolio that effectively demonstrates mastery of instructional technological tools, as related to education, schooling, and pedagogy.
  2. Synthesize program learning about pedagogical practices, intellectual content, and critical literacy perspectives within the digital portfolio.

Assignments

  1. Online Reflective Blogging (15%) — Weekly posts (approximately 300 words) reflecting on course content. Must connect to questions of inquiry posed by instructor and course readings.

  2. Design, Develop, and Facilitate a Session at EdCampCT (20%) — Session focuses on implementing at least one aspect of the Online Research and Media Skills Curriculum (online reading comprehension, online collaborative inquiry, or online content construction) or a specific digital text or tool.

  3. Electronic Resume (10%) — Create a one-page online document serving as an online resume or calling card across all online spaces.

  4. Creation of Digital Portfolio Prototype (25%) — Produce two versions for class review: an Alpha version (original, presented to class for review and feedback) and a Beta version (revised, incorporating feedback).

  5. Presentation of Digital Portfolio (30%) — Final grade assigned to the revised and published Beta version. Portfolio presented in the Ignite presentation format. Requirements and rubric constructed collaboratively by the class during the semester.
